According to a report from the Balochistan Human Rights Group, on Sunday, November 11, 2023, the death sentence of a Baloch political prisoner, “Meisam Chandani (Dehghani)”, 32 years old, son of Mohammad, from the Bakhsan region of Saravan County, who had endured more than 12 years of imprisonment, was carried out along with another prisoner in the central quarantine of Zahedan Prison.
According to the report, Meisam was sentenced to death while another individual with the identity of “Shahmir Naqibi” from Saravan, who was the main accused in the case, managed to escape during the transfer from Zahedan Prison to Saravan Prison at the Saravan terminal, even though he was also sentenced to death. Security forces fabricated a false case against Meisam, obtained forced confessions through torture, and sentenced him to death in place of Shahmir Naqibi.
Meisam Chandani was arrested in the early morning of August 28, 2011, when the Intelligence Forces of Saravan raided his father’s house in the Bakhsan region of Saravan on political and security charges. He was transferred to the Intelligence Detention Center in Zahedan and after about a year of detention and enduring physical and psychological tortures, including the “miracle bed,” he was moved to Zahedan Central Prison. He was later sentenced to death in a trial led by Judge “Abbas Ali Rajavi” on charges of “actions against national security,” “membership in opposition groups to the regime (Jundallah),” and “waging war through armed actions.”
The report, citing a source, states, “Meisam, after enduring a one-year period of physical and psychological torture at the Zahedan Intelligence Detention Center, including being subjected to the ‘miracle bed’ and beatings with cables and polyethylene pipes, suffered from mental and psychological disorders, including Alzheimer’s, and lost his mental and emotional balance.”
He was transferred to quarantine on Wednesday, November 8, from the security ward (ward 9) of Zahedan Central Prison.
